Attention: Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee

The purpose of this letter is to make an application to nominate Mr. John R. Brodie to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

John Brodie had an outstanding career with the San Francisco 49ers spanning 17 years and has long been proclaimed as a superior athlete by fellow players, coaches, fans and sports writers.

For 17 years John Brodie demonstrated his talent with the San Francisco 49ers. He played 201 games completing 2,469 passes for 31,548 yards and 214 touchdowns. He was 2nd between Joe Montana and Steve Young for number of passing yards, and while both of them have a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, John Brodie does not. I respectfully request that you consider Mr. Brodie for admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame(Senior Category, Class of 2009). and that you give him the full consideration that he deserves.

Attention: Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee

Please accept this letter as a formal request to nominate Mr. John R. Brodie to the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Senior Category, Class of 2009).

I, as well as many others, find it difficult to believe that John Brodie has not yet been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After having had this come to my attention recently, I felt that it was prudent to write and offer a nomination on his behalf.

I believe that football in his era was a more arduous game without the benefits of the new rules that players have now to assist the passing game. His 17 year career was spent exclusively with the San Francisco 49ers and he played 201 games completing 2,469 passes for 31,548 yards and 214 touchdowns. His best season was his MVP campaign in 1970 where he completed 223 of 378 passes for 2,941 yards and 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In 1965 Brodie threw for 3,112 yards and 30 touchdowns in 13 games.

The selection of John Brodie into the Pro Football Hall of Fame would be a notable moment of gratification to San Francisco 49er’s supporters everywhere. His career statistics speak for themselves and are an integral part of National Football League history. While casting your ballots, please remember that Super Bowl rings are not the only measure of a player's greatness. There is no arguing John Brodie’s accomplishments on the field!

Thank you.

Dear Members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee,

I am writing to you to submit my request to have Mr. John R. Brodie, NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49’ers, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. (Senior Category, Class of 2009)

During his 17 years as a consummate professional football player commencing in 1957 as a first-round draft choice, John’s statistics speak for themselves. He played 201 games, completing 2,469 passes for 31,548 yards and 214 touch downs with a quarterback rating of 72.3. Highlighting his prolific career, his most memorable and optimum season was in 1970 when as MVP he completed 223 of 378 passes for 2,941 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He was also NFC Player of the Year. John was 2nd between Joe Montana and Steve Young for number of yards passing.

Since his retirement in 1973, John’s further prestigious accomplishments include, yet are not limited to, the honour of being inducted into Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. His #12 jersey was retired and recently brought back and worn by Trent Dilfer.

John Brodie has embodied the spirit and heart of the game of football. He raised the bar and paved the way, setting an example of excellence for many of the greats who have followed in his footsteps. For his 17 extraordinary years of loyal dedication, undeniably outstanding statistics and contributed success on the playing field with the San Francisco 49’ers, John has inspired multitudes of admiring fans, along with earning the respect of coaches, colleagues and teammates alike. I believe it is long over due for John Brodie to receive this honour he so richly deserves of being enshrined in the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this exceptional and extremely worthy candidate.

Sincerely,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the countless fans who would like to recommend Mr. John R. Brodie as a nominee for the Professional Football League Hall of Fame (Senior Category, Class of 2009).

As a rising-star athlete at Stanford and a first-round draft choice to the San Francisco 49ers in 1957 where he spent 17 years as a record-setting quarterback, Mr. Brodie's career statistics prove that he is worthy of this distinct honor.

Among his accomplishments during his football career are:

Mr. Brodie was hailed as a multi-sport phenomenon during his youth, and he also played in the Senior Professional Golf Association Tour from 1985-1998 after leaving the world of football as well.

It is common knowledge that Mr. Brodie was taken down by a life-altering stroke several years ago, and he has had to learn to live with the repercussions of his medical condition. On a positive note, his loved ones report that he is still a vibrant man who has found many new ways to enjoy life.

Mr. Brodie's successes have long been heralded by sports fans and sports writers, alike. The time is right for him to now be paid the proper homage that he deserves by being granted admission to the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
