WR - It's past time that John Brodie gets enshrined into the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. His 17 years with the 49ers and his stats more
than warrant that honor.

MG - As a life long Niner fan, I realize the great contributions of Mr. Brodie

MM -Tom Landry called him, with Joe Namath, the NFL's greatest "pure
passer". He was the most exciting 49er for at least ten of his 17
years on the team, with unforgettable games in most seasons. He was an
icon the San Francisco Bay Area

ANON - We've known John Brodie since he was a freshman at Oakland
Technical High School and remember that long pass he threw to win the
game against Pittsburgh High - we've watched his career over the years
and always been proud of the fine athlete and good man he became. He
deserves a place in the Hall of Fame.

CF - Not only was John a superb quarterback, but he is a fine human
being, courageous, and kind. He deserves to be included in the
Football Hall of Fame.

PT - John Brodie played brilliantly for the 49ers for 17 years Great
athlete, great football player. suffered major stroke. Is deserving of
this recognition, which seems long overdue.

MK – Absolutely, I must say I was surprised to find out John Brodie
was not already in -- I think many people overlook him because of that
assumption. …

Anon. - One of the top 4 or 5 QB's for 12 seasons: (59-71). The NY
Giants tried to replay their stealing of YA Title in'61 with a trade
offer for JB in '66, but Niners wisely turned them down. He never had
a great defense until '70.

H.W.S. - It's about time, John Brodie should have been in the hall of
fame 5 years after he retired.

BB - John is one of the game's better passing quarterbacks whose
achievements and play has gone unrecognized for far too long.

PC - John Brodie's career and character exemplifies the ultimate
hall-of-famer. This honor is past due for Brodie and all his
accomplishments. Please consider John for the '09 induction award.

PM - John Brodie is one of the reasons I am a longtime football fan.
His legendary hookups with Gene Washington were something to behold. I
think the hall of fame deserves to have him enshrined,

HJD - I was stunned to just learn that John Brodie wasn't in the Hall
of Fame years ago. His 16 year amazing performance for the 49ers, as
well as his overall stats surely warrants that. Not to speak of the
fact that his genuine niceness, devotion to family, and genuine
quality of character serves as a valuable role model - so much needed
in this era. Please, elect him to the Hall of Fame.

SP - John Brodie did for football what Curtis Flood did for baseball,
gave players the right to make a real living in sports as athletes.
John was great in his day and truly loyal to the 49ers. His poise as
quarterback was an inspiration to future players. It is time he is
given this recognition in the Hall of Fame.

Anon - I grew up as a Niner fan. Started following them in the early
1950's. Joe Montana, Steve Young, John Brodie and YA Tittle were all
top QB's. Brodie belongs in the Hall with the others. He played in the
12 and 14 game venue era. Had he played 16 games a year he would have
been among the tops in the game. As it was he was 3rd all time by the
time he retired.

NJ - In his era, John Brodie was one of the top five quarterbacks who
played the game. He was as good as Y.A. Tittle who is in the Hall of
Fame.

KWB - John Brodie was the master of the 2 minute drill who
foreshadowed the West Coast Offense. Bill Walsh himself credited John
as having provided him with the fundamental insights that Walsh later
developed formally into the West Coast Offense. And Brodie's on field
generalship was inspiring. He took chances because he had to. And
delivered thrilling performances time and time again. What a great
QB!!
DS - this is a travesty that he isn't in the HOF.

CF - Consider the breadth of the accomplishments through the prism of
the game at the time, and not by the expectations of the passing game
today.

RR - Thanks for the memories JB! Godspeed to HOF! You truly deserve the honor!

JPC - Great quarterback. Won first division titles for the 49ers and
was among the best of his time. Lots of niners fans in Brazil would
love o see Brodie in the Hall of Fame.

RV - My Aunt and Uncle Tony & Josephine Morbito who founded the 49ers
in 1946.John Brodie came in 1957 and gave them the great play for
17yrs with best years being the early 70's under Dick Nolan.
Unfortunately for Brodie, the teams were always exciting, but the
supporting cast was not equal to John. He carried the team for many a
year. He should be in the HOF.

Anon - Brodie is one of the greats and it's a travesty that he isn't
already in the hall of fame. Fix this.

MB - John Brodie.....a strong willed and compassionate man, who always
had time to engage the youth in his presence. Never pompous always a
perfect host with a special welcome for the less agile or compromised.
John is an athlete above all...a passionate contender who truly loves
the field of sports from every angle. He played hard and works hard
now even in the face of adversity. His smile lights up the room...so
it was recently when he and his wife Sue celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary surrounded by old football buddies and his family. Since
1972, our family has known John, first as neighbors and then as
friends. It's been an enriching experience.

SL - John Brodie was a true warrior and the reason I have been a 49ers
fan for the past 40 years! In an era before the league changed rules
to make passing easier and more wide open, Brodie was the master of
precision passing. Nobody threw a better deep ball than JB! Brodie
played well on mediocre teams and thrived when the Niners nearly made
two Super Bowls in the early 70's. He was never better than in the
cold of Minnesota knocking of the Vikings in the '70 playoffs.

SY - I grew up in the early '70s and suddenly the NFL and particularly
my hometown Niners turned me into a now-lifelong sports fan from being
a nerd. John Brodie was the Niners' QB then and I watched #12 with
great interest as he made the Niners winners. He deserves to be in the
Hall.

JR - A real gamer. Brodie for HOF!

TE - John, Best wishes in getting elected into the Hall of Fame. You
brought both my grandfather and dad great memories during your playing
days. I sincerely hope to see you giving a speech in Canton.

BH - John Brodie was an amazingly good QB on some very poor teams.
Once he had a reasonably strong supporting cast, he did exceptionally
well, leading the 1970 49ers to the NFC Championship Game and winning
the MVP Award.

Anon - saw John play when I was a kid. He was my first football hero
and one of the best pure passers I ever saw. I was at a game in
Candlestick in 1972 against the Vikings when he threw 2 4th Qtr TD
passes that won them the division. It is one of my lasting football
memories and I'll never forget it. For all this, his impressive stats
and his contributions as a broadcaster, I believe his election to the
Hall of Fame is long overdue.

MR - As a life long 49er fan, I've always been interested in some of
the legendary players that have contributed to the team's rich history
– particularly at quarterback. My Dad, in large part, helped shape my
opinion that John Brodie was one of the all-time 49er greats. And
evidence of that is easy to see for anyone that has seen highlights of
him connecting with Gene Washington. I hope he gets in the Hall of
Fame, as he was one of the first of QB's to usher in the modern-era
passing games.

CM - My son and I had season tickets and went to every game. John
Brodie was my son's hero as he was very accurate and could see the
entire field. He was in control of the team and could inspire them.
With his stats he should be in the Hall Of Fame.

DO - As a kid he was the one we all pretended to be when we were
playing sand lot football.

RJ - I attended junior high and high school in Oakland with John. Even
at that time he was an outstanding athlete in all sports, especially
football. All his high school classmates have followed his career for
many years and we are proud of his many accomplishments with the
49ers. We feel he has been overlooked for induction into the Hall of
Fame for far too many years. We are anxious to see that he is properly
recognized.

RB - Please put JB on the ballot, he deserves and the 49ers deserve it!

EE - Brodie deserves a slot in the HOF in his time he is one of the
many greats to make the NFL what it is today, so give him the much
overdue credit he deserves.

SG - John Brodie was a great QB, and ambassador for the game. He gave
his heart and soul for the team and his love of football. He deserves
to be in Canton.

SN - Can't remember the year, he came off the bench and beat the
Vikings to get us into the playoffs - I was 8 years old and never
looked back. Thank you JB

RT - What a great all around athlete! An All-American Quarterback at
Stanford, an all pro caliber qb with the Niners and a professional
golfer. What a super life this man has lived. And yes, he does deserve
a bust in Canton. He has earned it and most certainly has my vote.

LC - As a 49er Season Ticket buyer since 1965 I watched Brodie with
admiration. There are lesser players in the Hall. Brodie deserves
selection.

JL - Brodie is the quintessential 49er quarterback that laid the
groundwork for our glory years. His induction is long overdue.

PK - Only 49er quarterback to ever lead the NFL in passing. My dog's
name is Brodie.

F - John Brodie was a class act and one of the great quarterbacks of
his generation. He should be inducted into the HOF.

Anon - I've been a 49er fan since I was four years old. This was in
1970. It started with, and/or because of, John Brodie. It is the
spirit and ability with which he played the game that has helped
reinforce my faith in the 49ers over the years. He epitomizes the best
of the NFL. The Hall would be well-enriched by all the tangibles and
intangibles he amassed over the years.

J - Brodie is worthy of the hall of fame and it wouldn't be the same
without him and he was a former pro bowler and first pick.

RS - John Brodie was a standout player who deserves his place in the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. Please consider honoring a great player
earn his rightful place.

MF - John Brodie was one of my childhood sports heroes along with
Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. His induction into the Pro Football
Hall of Fame is long overdo!

BS - John Brodie was the first great quarterback I ever saw. Beginning
with games at Kezar, I saw some amazing performances. I will never
forget the look on my Dad's face when the Niners won. Thanks John.

CB - John Brodie was the total package, he had everything attribute a
hall of fame quarterback needs. He was tough, he was a leader, and he
was a winner. He played in a time when football was played mostly for
the love of the game. He brought me much joy throughout my childhood
and into my teen years. I honestly believe he should be in the hall of
fame.

MB - John Brodie was one of the great QBs of his generation, but more
than that, he was and is a great human being who always represented
the NFL with class.

RI - I grew up a 9er fan and I always thought John Brodie was the most
underrated QB of all time. I was an assistant pro at Palo Alto Hills
C.C. in the mid 60's and got to meet him once. What super guy. PUT HIM
IN THE HALL OF FAME.

DB - John Brodie needs to be in the hall of fame. He was almost as
good of a quarterback as Joe Montana. Football is a team game an d the
49ers of the mid to late 60s and early 70's just didn't quite measure
up as a team. I mean, should Preston Riley's fumble of an onside kick
against the Cowboys in 1972 keep John Brodie out of the Hall Of Fame.
Ask the players. John Brodie was as good of a quarterback as Bart
Starr. He simply was not lucky enough to have had a complete team that
won a Super Bowl. I sure wish he had a Super Bowl ring. Just couldn't
quite get over the hump. It looks like he is having the same problem
with getting into the hall. I think it's high time he caught a break.

SS - Let's get this amazing athlete on the Hall of Fame books! I
thought he was in it already! For both John and his family who has
supported him!

CB - I watched John Brodie play for years and I consider him to be a
fitting applicant for the Hall of Fame. Please place my signature to
the petition on his behalf.

ST - I was lucky enough to see john play a lot from his rookie days to
his end . I feel that he out played Joe Namath & other QB's in the HOF
now. I do not know any of his stat's all I know is what I saw every
Sunday. I am not or ever been a 49er big fan , Just a football great
fan since 1959.

LD - A great honor recognizing the greatness that is the man...John Brodie.

SS - John Brodie was, for me, the embodiment of the 49er spirit. He
was a thinker and a doer and helped to put the 49ers on the map. As a
fan of the forward pass, he was truly my football hero.

JPO - The numbers never lie!

LP - John Brodie's entry into the NFL HOF is long overdue. His
contributions to the 49ers and the league in general have been
astronomical. Having played high school baseball and football with
John, I am well aware of his love of all sports and particularly
football. I wholeheartedly endorse his nomination for his rightful
place in the Hall of Fame.

BM - John had an amazing career with the 49ers and has since dedicated
a great deal of his life to football. He deserves to be in the Hall of
Fame.

DT - A native San Franciscan on the San Francisco 49ers, via Stanford! Yes!

GT - League MVP two times, demonstrated leader and wonderful man. How
could you not vote him in!

RL - John Riley Brodie not in the hall of fame??? Not only is he a
hall of fame player, he is a hall of fame human being too.

SL - I'm 44 years old. John Brodie was my first football hero and one
of the reasons I'm a 49er fan. He deserves to be in the HOF.

TM - John Brodie was a great player, both performance and stats wise.
He was the harbinger of the West Coast Offense; unfortunately he did
not have a coach like Bill Walsh to guide him. He surely and without a
doubt is a hall of famer....

RP - John deserves to be in the Hall. One of my first football
memories was when he came off the bench to take the ball from Steve S.
and guide the 49ers to a playoff win.

SO - As a youth, I became a 49er football fan when John Brodie was the
QB. Memories of #12's passes to Gene Washington will never be
forgotten. I think his induction into the Hall is long overdue.

SM - the best Quarterback ever he is what hero's are .he is what a
hero should be. there is nobody to compare you with to this day .Thank
you John .

DW - This should be a simple decision for the Hall. Fantastic QB,
pioneer for the game, gentleman and a class act.

DD - John was on par with the elite quarterbacks of his generation,
and deserves to be in the hall of fame with his peers. His
accomplishments both on and off the field, including his work as a
broadcaster after his playing career, merit his inclusion in the hall…

SS - John Brodie was an inspiration to the 49er fans in the 60's and
70's. The offenses he led during his career played above their
potential because of his leadership. There is not a finer example of a
player, person, and a devoted family man who should be in our
country's hall of fame.

Anon - What are you waiting for????

LS - Being a long time 49er fan, I've always been surprised that John
Brodie wasn't in the Hall of Fame. He's such a legend. Please include
him this year!

MC - Are you kidding me he's not on the ballot?

RP - …I am astonished to have just found out that John Brodie has not
yet been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame…The selection of
John Brodie into the Pro Football Hall of Fame would be a matter of
honor to Mr. Brodie, his family and to all of his San Francisco 49er's
supporters everywhere. His superlative career achievements make him an
integral part of National Football League history. I believe you will
agree that this man deserves a place in NFL history right along with
his many peers…

AW - Please nominate John Brodie to Pro Football Hall of Fame. I have
known him and his family for thirty years and feel as though his
passion for family and football is unmatched.

DG - As a 40 year professional football follower and 20 year Redskin
50 yard line ticket holder, I find in beyond understanding why John
Brodie is not in enshrined in Canton. In the 60's, John Brodie was the
epitome of what football on the west coast was all about. He was
iconic in his era; future generations should be able to see him in
Canton as the roll model her was to the generation of coaches who
developed the west coast offense. John was there before it became the
rage. Let's get this done now.

CB - JB should be considered for the Hall of Fame for oodles of
reasons--but to have been the one person in 1970 to receive the MVP of
the NFL award--how many NFL players can say they were the Most
Valuable Player in the NFL? I hope the committee considers selecting
him to the Hall of Fame while he is alive---he deserves that.

OR - Before the 49ers became the team of the 1980s, Brodie was one of
the faces of the franchise. When John Brodie retired from the NFL, he
ranked third in the NFL in career passing yards (behind Johnny Unitas
and Fran Tarkenton. He deserves a place in the Hall, please give him
the vote!

DD - Go John-great man, great record.

Anon - great leader of the 49'ers even before the Bill Walsh era.
Surrounded by gene washington, ken willard, and john david crow,
Brodie always came to play...even when most of the press was following
bart starr and lombardi.

Anon - John Brodie was the second of the line of great 49er
quarterbacks but the first one that I saw play on TV and at the old
Kezar stadium. He was sensational as everyone wanted to be #12!

LM - i watched john brodie for years . he is one of my all time heros
. i'll never forget that he played ball during the time when " the
blitz " was introduced . red hickey did not have the foggiest idea of
how to block the blitz . brodie was on of the truly great quarterbacks
i ever saw & i have been a niner fan for 45 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anon - John Brodie was as good a QB as you could find during his time
in the NFL. A true great who belongs in the Hall of Fame.

SF - I have been a 49er fan my entire adult life and John Brodie is
the one player who brought me there! Good Luck John!

KP - The Champ supports the cause! John Brodie was a pioneer of NFL
passing when it wasn't so chic....lets not let tunnel vision keep this
great athlete and worthy member out of the HOF!

D - Brodie should have been put in the Pro Hall of Fame years ago.
What's is the delay? PUT JOHN BRODIE IN THE HALL OF FAME IN 2009!

DW - One of the all-time greats!
MP - Look at the numbers, John Brodie should be a firt ballot Hall of Famer.

AH - Why John Brodie is not in Canton is a mystery (possibly no Super
Bowl Championship). The man had it all, he could call his own plays,
run, pass and the stamina to last 17 years in the NFL. He is arguably
better than some QBs in there right now.

DN - John Brodie was a great QB during the time when athletes played
for pure love of the game. The Niners just happened to an average team
with a HOF QB!!

CK - It is way past due for Brodie to be elected. He will always come
to mind when I think of football and the San Francisco 49ers just like
Dave Wilcox.

LB - John Brodie w/ his stats I can't believe he is not already in.
John Brodie needs to be in the Hall of Fame.

BY - The records and statistics speaks for itself. John was a
tremendous quarterback that needs to be recognized for his
contribution to the NFL.

LB - Please consider John Brodie for the Football Hall of Fame. His
contribution to football history is memorable and lasting and should
be commemorated with a Hall of Fame membership.

JL - There is no question in my mind that Mr. Brodie belongs in the
Hall of Fame.

PH - Brodie played in an era that wasn't predicated on the forward
pas. QB's like Norm Van Brocklyn and Sonny Jurgenson have been
admitted into the hall that played during the same era. Based on his
stats and overall play John Brodie should definitely be considered.

RN - For most of his career he made mediocre teams competitive and
interesting. He endured criticism from fans because he was so good
they expected the impossible. You always expected him to win the game,
and with him at quarterback, there was always a chance no matter how
bad his team. He was as good or better than anyone in his era,
including Namath and Starr. Sunday afternoons in the fall were more
fun because of John Brodie.

JB - Growing up in the 80's and 90's I never thought of what came
before Joe Montana and Steve Young for the 49ers. Looking at John
Brodie's stats, and considering the era he played in he has to be in
the Hall! Let's get this done in time, so we can see John stand on the
platform with his HOF coat amongst his peers.

GV - He retired 34 years ago and he is still prominently ranked in two
categories (Passing Yards #27 and TDs #20) everyone salivates over
today...speaks volumes about how good he was when he played.

BH - Give this amazing career the recognition it deserves

SO - In his day he was very important to SF 49er's and their fans. He
belongs in the hall of fame.

WP - Another injustice. John Brodie, along with Ken Stabler belong in
the Hall of Fame. These two are examples of players who are being
forgotten that deserve to be remember. They played in the greatest era
of pro football, the mid to late 60's and 1970's. The best way to
remember them is to put them in the Hall of Fame.

BC - I am surprised that John Brodie hasn't been inducted before this.
He statistics for the 49ers are #2 only surpassed by Joe Montana.
Steve Young is #3 and both Montana and Young have already been
inducted. The 49ers were a less sexy team than the Baltimore Colts,
Greenbay Packers, Chicago Bears, and the Kansas City Chiefs. That is
not a valid reason to keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Please
consider him for this year's inductees.

L - John Brodie was among the leading passers in the league throughout
the 1960's! When Brodie retired from the NFL, he ranked third in
career passing yards! This man deserves to be in the Pro Football Hall
of Fame.

JR - I'm an old-timer and I still remember his last-second touchdown
pass to Dick Witcher in 1972 that beat MN and put the 49ers in the
playoffs! He has had a brilliant career. I want to see him in the Pro
Football Hall of Fame.
MM - I am a 56 year old native San Francisco. I remember going to
Kezar Stadium watching John Brodie throw to Gene Washington. o This
was one of the most memorable things I remember growing up as a San
Francisco Sports Fan. I really believe John Brodie should be enshrined
in the Hall of Fame

JJ - John Brodie deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. In discussing
this with others of my generation regarding John's performance, all of
us thought he was already in the Hall of Fame. John Brodie, Johnny
Unitas. Y A Title and Bart Starr were the preeminent quarterbacks
